The Edmonton Chinese Lions Club was chartered in 1979. A group of over 80 Edmontonians – mostly of Chinese descent – formed the club, with the mandate of serving Edmonton’s inner city with emphasis on the Chinese community.Today, the Edmonton Chinese Lions Club includes members from many different cultural backgrounds, and while we stand by our original commitment to serve Edmonton’s inner city, we have expanded our mandate to include all cultures within Edmonton’s diverse community.
Since 1979, the Edmonton Chinese Lions Club has contributed over 100,000 volunteer hours to projects benefiting our local community. From hosting literacy fairs to spark childrens’ interest in reading, to serving hot meals to those in need, and planting trees to benefit our environment in the future, the Edmonton Chinese Lions Club is here to serve our community to create a better tomorrow.
The Edmonton Chinese Lions Club is also the sponsor of the Omega Achievers Leo Club, which was chartered in 2004 and is Edmonton’s only Leo club to date. We actively involve the Leos in our current Lions projects to help them develop the skills and confidence required to become strong leaders in the future.
Who we serve
The Edmonton Chinese Lions Club primarily serves Edmonton’s inner city population, which is a diverse and multicultural community. We strive to meet the needs of those who live in the area through projects promoting education, literacy, and good citizenship.
Additionally, the Edmonton Chinese Lions Club participates in benefit fundraisers such as CBC Edmonton’s annual Turkey Drive, and we host a fundraiser each year at our annual Christmas party to benefit Edmonton area charities.
The Edmonton Chinese Lions Club also works with Edmonton organizations such as Mustard Seed, Operation Friendship Seniors Society, and E4C to help Edmontonians of all ages, backgrounds, and ethnicities.
